This original production tells the story of life on the freedom trail. It speaks of pain, of strides towards freedom and of a job yet undone. We must never forget those who led, those who followed and those who died on the road to freedom.

I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Ernie Wade at Wake Forest University. He is an outstanding speaker, educator and person.

"Words" is both informative and inspiring. The words are inspiring and powerful. The music touches your soul. Time well spent.

About The Writer

Dr Ernie Wade is a nationally know speaker and educator. He has been speaking and writing about Martin Luther King Jr. for more than 30 years. He had a concern that younger generations knowledge of African American history was limited to MLK Jr. and “I Have a Dream”. Consequently he decided to try and address this issue by writing this play. As Uncle Jake he masterfully recounts important elements of the struggle. He talks to Martin, you were a new prophet declaring that the promises of old prophets must be kept”. He reports on the secret weapon of the struggle “God” When we were attacked by racist policeman, God was there. • The mixture of intense conversation, powerful oratory and soul stirring gospel music provides for a powerful experience.

MEET THE CAST

Rodney Archie

Rodney Archie is a professional artist fresh from a european tour with the harlem gospel singers. He has been the minister of music at several churches. He has been singing and performing since was seven years old. A former member of the boys Choir of Harlem he has graced the stages of the Apollo theater and the Philharmonic Auditorium in Cologne Germany.

Dr. Ernie Wade

Dr. Ernie Wade speaks from experience. He honed his activism skills and knowledge while a student at Johnson C. Smith University. When he lived in Chicago, he was actively involved with Operation Breadbasket, led first by MLK Jr. and later by Reverend Jesse Jackson. He was able to see in clear terms how activism can work, as Operation Breadbasket successfully challenged the hiring practices of both the Pepsi and Coke companies, as well as the Chicago construction industry.
